What is CBD?

What is CBD?

You, your mom, your best friend, and even your grandparents have probably tried or thought about trying some form of CBD product. There is a lot of hype around CBD these days, so let's demystify it!

CBD has quickly risen to stardom, leading to a variety of beneficial products to choose from. CBD is everywhere, can be found in so many products, and it is only the beginning!

At its most basic, CBD is short for cannabidoil. CBD is just one of more than 400 compounds produced by the cannabis plant. Cannabidoil (CBD), an abundant chemical compound found in the cannabis and hemp plant, can be extracted from the flowers and leaves. CBD offers similar effects as THC, but without the mind-altering high. It is used to support the mind and body without the mind-altering effects. It's perfect for those looking for a relief from anxiety, body aches, and pains.

CBD comes from the plant Cannabis sativa, but that plant has two main species: marijuana and hemp. Hemp contains more CBD in it than the marijuana plant. However, hemp oil is not the same as CBD. The hemp oil that's extracted doesn't contain any cannabinoids (either CBD or THC).

Is CBD legal?

The U.S. Congress passed the 2018 Farm Bill which changed the definition of hemp from a Schedule 1 controlled substance to an ordinary agriculture commodity. However, CBD cannot be sold in Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

How Does CBD interact with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)?

When living a balanced life, your body can naturally flow in a state of harmony and equilibrium. The key to achieving this balance starts with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Think of the ECS as the body's primary regulatory system. Our bodies naturally provide endocannabinoids, which help us achieve homeostasis in the body. It's been called 'the thermostat for all cell functions in our body.'

According to researchers, CBD interacts with the human ECS, a group of cannabinoid receptors in your brain and nervous system that regulate mood, pain, appetite, sleep and immunity. These are all things people struggle with and looking for solutions for. CBD and the ECS work together to harmonize the body and mind into a state of balance. So, basically, this is just what you've been searching for -- more relaxed state of mind, steering clear of stress, and anxiety. You will begin to find yourself less reactive in situations that may upset you. At night, you will no longer being making a thousand lists in your head when you are unable to sleep. Instead, you will find it easier to clear your mind and get a better night's rest.

A cannabinoid is a diverse compound that is produced naturally by the body, and also found in cannabis. Cannibinoids are messengers that help the body by binding to and communicating with receptors. There are two types - Endogenous and Exogenous. The body produces endogenous cannabinoids. Exogeneous cannabinoids come from outside the body, like CBD products.

With this in mind, here are a few important things to keep in mind about CBD:

  • The cannabis plant contains hundreds of different cannabinoid compounds. The most popular are THC and CBD. Most of the compounds in cannabis are proven to affect the brain and immune system.  However, CBD is one of the cannabinoids that does not deliver a high. You may, however, experience a deeper sense of calm and a clear mind.

  • CBD has been around for a long time. The first case of medicinal cannabis use dates back to China, around 2737 BC.

  • CBD may not cause you to fail a drug test. Drug tests are specifically looking for the presence of THC in your system. Desert Bloom CBD contains less than 0.3% THC from legal hemp. However, it is still possible for the test to show a false positive.

  • You can add CBD to food and drinks, but it will slow the absorption into your body. CBD is very versatile and is a delicious addition to smoothies, dressings, and cocktails. It can be purchased and consumed in many forms!

  • If it's your first time using CBD, try a small dose between 5 and 10mg, and increase your dose until you notice positive benefits. It's always a good ideas to start slow and assess.

  • Desert Bloom Botanicals CBD products are best stored at room temperature.

  • It is always advised that you consult your healthcare provider before adding CBD to your diet, especially if you are taking any kind of medication.
